The tutorial is aimed at developers and others who are interested in the business and technical aspects of developing software on a Web 2.0 open source geospatial platform. No background in web development is required. The workshop will include both business and hands-on technical aspects of developing web mapping applications.
The topics that will be covered include developing commercial open source applications, business benefits of open source web mapping applications, installing open source web mapping platform and tools, Ajax, the Feature Data Object (FDO) API, and DMSolutions’ Fusion using tools to develop web mapping applications, working with multiple data sources including Oracle Locator/Spatial, and developing web-based edit applications.
Upon successfully completing the course you will be able create dynamic web-based mapping applications including spatial edit. You will understand the key business drivers motivating commercial web mapping application and will have learned how to install open source web mapping platform and tools; to use open source tools to connect to, prepare, and stylize geospatial information; to use an open source API to connect to multiple data sources including Oracle Locator/Spatial; and to develop open source web mapping applications using open source development tools.
Course materials that will be provided include CDs with platform and development software, and collateral including web links, white papers, and presentation material.Technical requirements: Each participant is expected to bring
