You have seen all those cool mapping applications, both on the desktop and on the web, and now you want to make some of your own.

This workshop will give you all the tools you need to build a complete GIS/Web mapping stack using a selection of free and open source tools. We will take shapefiles and put them in PostGIS. With this as the base we will use open source GIS desktop tools, GeoServer, WorldWindJava, Google Earth and OpenLayers, as viewers.

Paul has been a developer and promoter of open source geospatial software for 10 years, as a founder of the PostGIS spatial database project, leader of an open source geospatial company, as a Director of the Open Source Geospatial Foundation, and currently as a Senior Consultant for OpenGeo.org. Paul speaks regularly at geospatial conferences, teaches workshops on open source databases, and consults on the use and development of spatial databases.

Steve is a PaaS Dust Spreader (aka developer evangelist) with OpenShift. He goes around and shows off all the great work the OpenShift engineers do. He can teach you about PaaS with Java, PostgreSQL MongoDB, mobile JavaScript, some Android, a little bit of iPhone, and even some Python. He has deep subject area expertise in GIS/Spatial, Statistics, and Ecology. He has spoken at over 50 conferences and done over 30 workshops including Monktoberfest, MongoNY, JavaOne, BAPI, CTIA, AjaxWorld, ESRI Developer Conference, GeoWeb, Where2.0, and SAP TechEd. Before OpenShift, Steve was a developer evangelist for LinkedIn and deCarta. Steve has a Ph.D. in Ecology from University of Connecticut. He likes building interesting applications and helping developers create great solutions.
