Times are hard and your angel funder just told you that your non-profit open source org needs to feed itself. What to do? Become a dot org, a revenue generating organization that stays true to its mission. How? Build product, reorganize, rebrand, adopt new business models. Great, but it also means change, in terms of process, organization, culture and people’s expectations. The talk is about achieving a balance between profitability and the open source mission.
Sophia is freelance geographer. Previously, she was Director of Operations at OpenGeo and a Adjunct Professor at Hunter College. Sophia organized Augmented Reality DevCamp NYC and hosts AR New York Meetups. Before joining OpenGeo, she was a founder and CTO of IONIC Enterprise (acquired by Erdas) and Senior Program Manager for In-Q-Tel, the CIA’s venture capital fund.
